Mainboard Mit M2 Slot
I just finished building my first gaming pc and it ran perfectly for the first week. Yesterday after work I got home and turned it on and it would not boot into windows and only boot to bios (MSI B450M Pro-VDH motherboard). After checking the bios menu it showed that my new Crucial MX500 M.2 SSD was not connected. I shut it down, removed graphics card (as the M.2 slot is just behind it) and unscrewed it and pulled it out, then replaced everything and powered it back on ( I tried this twice). Nothing still, just booted into bios and showing as nothing connected. This is weird because, just the night before I had been running the machine and playing games and now today (yesterday) would not boot? I fully powered it down the night before as I normally would any computer.
My question is this. How do I know if it's my M.2 SSD that's bad, or if it's the M.2 slot on the motherboard that is bad? Also, How would I go about erasing the data on the M.2 before returning for a refund/exchange if it's bad?
Thanks in advanced, and new member by the way
MSI B450M PRO-M2 Overview. The MSI B450M PRO-M2 motherboard is a basic motherboard with some give and take on the features. It has an AMD B450 chipset and an ATX form factor. The layout includes a single PCI Express x16, and two PCI slots. There are two DDR4 slots with support up to 32GB of memory that can be run at clock speeds up to 3466 MHz. The second M.2 slot residing beneath the second PCIe x16 slot, labelled M22, can take mini-SSDs up to 80 mm long. MSI has outfitted the M22 slot with a heat shield and thermal pad to prevent M.2.
M.2, formerly known as the Next Generation Form Factor (NGFF), is a specification for internally mounted computer expansion cards and associated connectors. M.2 replaces the mSATA standard, which uses the PCI Express Mini Card physical card layout and connectors. Not all five M.2 PCIe slots are integrated into the motherboard. Three PCIe Gen4x4 slots are integrated and the option for 2 remaining Gen4x4 slots is available via included add-in-card which MSI calls “XPANDER-Z Gen4”. Unfortunately, the XPANDER-Z Gen 4 add-in card is not individually available for purchase in the market as of now. Hi guys, Got myself a MSI B450M Mortar motherboard and it has 2 M.2 slots. M21 supported by the CPU (in use) M22 supported by the B450 chipset (empty) The motherboard lists this as: Does this mean I cannot use a SATA M.2 in M22? How come the B450 chipset doesnt support the SATA.

With the launch of AMD’s latest X570 Motherboard lineup, PCIe Gen4 Technology also arrived in the market which doubles the bandwidth of the previous PCIe 3.0 Technology. The good news is that the PCIe 4.0 is backward compatible with PCIe 3.0 but don’t expect your PCIe Gen3x4 drives to run at Gen4x4 speeds in PCIe 4.0 slot.
Since PCIe NVMe drives are far superior than SATA SSDs or HDDs, these have become the first choice for professionals. As the price of PCIe drives has been decreasing substantially, professionals nowadays are opting for “all PCIe SSD” systems. Content creators love to have lots of physical partitions in their system to effectively manage their workflow but there are only a few motherboards in the market that can serve for this need.
So, which motherboard supports the most number of PCIe Gen4x4 M.2 slots?
MSI MEG X570 Godlike supports a total of five M.2 PCIe Gen4x4 slots which is higher than any X570 motherboard could offer. Professionals who do Video Editing, Color Correction, Modelling, Music Production, etc. need a large number of drives to manage libraries and files instead of one single large capacity drive and they would love what MSI MEG X570 Godlike has to offer.

Unfortunately, the XPANDER-Z Gen 4 add-in card is not individually available for purchase in the market as of now. It only comes with selected MSI motherboards.
After this Godlike, MSI Prestige X570 Creation motherboard comes up with the support of four M.2 PCIe 4.0 Slots incorporating two slots within the board. The other two slots are provided by the XPANDER-Z Gen4 AIC.
